In the past, many people have asked about my philosophy on governing. If you look at the dictionary definition of politician, politics and statesperson and compare it to the stand I have taken in the past, my philosophy is evident.
- Politician-a person active in governmental affairs or politics.
- Politics-the activities and methods of a political party.
- Statesperson-one who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship in the general interest.
Look at my record of service, you will find I constantly worked to be a statesperson. The following definition of leadership embodies what I believe a leader should be:
- "A leader is someone who sets aside a personal agenda and embraces a greater agenda of serving others." - Flip Flippen.
I believe government should serve the people. It should be as small as possible to provide the best service at the lowest cost. It should work to maintain efficient delivery of service to keep taxes as low as possible. Representatives should uphold the Constitution, its amendments and Bill of Rights, not work to eliminate or ignore them. Most of all every decision should put the interests of people in the forefront regardless of political ties or affiliations.
Like most of us, I am proud to be an American. Even with all our problems, we live in the best country in the world. Our founding fathers created a system of government that allows each of us to achieve our goals and dreams without government intervention.
Knowing this legacy, I have always worked to represent resident issues to the best of my ability. To me, leadership is synonymous to service.
Together we can restore responsive government to city hall.
